Christine Steele

As a lifelong musician and educator based in Central Virginia, I bring over 30 years of experience as a performer, conductor, and private instructor. My primary instrument is flute, though I perform and teach across woodwinds, brass, and piano, giving me a broad and practical understanding of ensemble playing and pedagogy. I am passionate about helping musicians of all ages and abilities grow in confidence, technical skill, and expressive artistry—especially students who benefit from creative, individualized, and neurodivergent-friendly approaches to learning. In addition to my work as a private instructor, I am an active performer in the region and serve in a leadership role with a long-standing community band, where I conduct, program concerts, and support organizational development. I am particularly interested in building inclusive musical communities, expanding access to live performance, and creating meaningful connections between performers and audiences. My specialty lies in meeting musicians where they are and helping them move forward with clarity and purpose—whether that means refining tone, solving technical challenges, or developing performance confidence. I pride myself on strong communication, intuitive problem-solving, and the ability to quickly diagnose and address musical issues across instruments. Outside of music, I enjoy spending time with my family, caring for our backyard chickens, and exploring creative projects that blend artistry and community engagement. I am always interested in networking with fellow musicians, educators, and arts organizations who value collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to making music accessible and impactful. Looking ahead, my goals include continuing to grow as a conductor and leader, expanding performance opportunities for both professionals and students, and contributing to a vibrant, inclusive arts culture in my community.
